When Fast & Furious inspires a windshield giant

Beyond the limits of reality, the Fast & Furious saga takes us into a world of spectacular car stunts, far removed from the peaceful world of auto glass repair. But… what if this franchise inspired a communications campaign for a skilled trade?

That’s the starting point of a fictional (or almost) case study we wanted to lend our imagination to. And you’ll see: pop culture sometimes has much more to offer than a simple “wow” effect.

Fast & Furious and digital communication

Fast & Furious means speed, luxury cars, daring stunts… and of course, collateral damage. Lots of collateral damage. By that, we mean cars:

  • on fire;
  • crushed to pieces;
  • exploding;
  • and above all… a huge number of shattered windows.

In fact, when you think about it, every film in the saga seems to exert a kind of magnetic pull on windshields. Rewatch any car chase and count the shards of glass: you’ll be convinced.

When glass meets speed

Imagine a company specializing in auto glass repair and replacement. For its new communications campaign, it needs to think big. How about taking inspiration from Fast & Furious?

Don’t worry, we won’t go as far as recreating the film’s July 2021 promotional campaign: we’re afraid we don’t have the budget to crash a car into a wall. But we can still play along and come up with a concept that will get people talking.

One stunt, one GIF, one message

Let’s bet on animated GIFs, for example. Short and punchy, these mini-animations get a message across in less time than it takes to say “hello.”

What next?

We share it all on social media, and beyond. We also invite users to share their own “Fast & Furious moments” (aka their windshield mishaps) repaired by our client.

Why not go further?

A contest, with a free window replacement for the best story (or the most incredible photo)!

Let’s recap how the campaign works:

  1. a GIF that hooks people, with a slogan that makes them smile;
  2. distribution on social media, and beyond;
  3. user-generated content, with people sharing their own mishaps;
  4. a contest to keep engagement going.

When pop culture meets craftsmanship

As you’ve gathered, a hit saga like Fast & Furious can give us much more than adrenaline rushes. With a little imagination and the right tools, it can become the starting point for a punchy, engaging and viral campaign.

Trust us: pop culture is your best ally.

With its universal references, it helps you:

  • grab attention;
  • build engagement;
  • and make your messages memorable.

Being memorable is also one of the pillars of a strong brand, as we explain in our article on how to become unforgettable with a strong visual identity. The creative idea still has to serve a real strategy: that’s what our article on the 5 communication mistakes to avoid in the French Caribbean and French Guiana is all about.

One last reveal

Before we go, we have something to reveal: Bitwip is proud to announce a campaign in collaboration with a big name in windshields, Carglass. Its first major appearance? In movie theaters, with messaging directly inspired by the Fast & Furious saga. To see more campaigns by the agency, take a look at our work.

Frequently asked questions

Why use pop culture in a communications campaign?

Because its references are universal: they grab attention, build engagement and make a message memorable, even in a highly technical trade.

Which formats work best for a campaign inspired by pop culture?

Short, punchy formats, like the animated GIF, shared on social media and extended with user content or a contest.

Can a small trade business run a viral campaign?

Yes. With a little imagination and the right tools, a reference everyone knows can become the starting point for a punchy, engaging and viral campaign.
